Tech Tools from EUROCALL 2017

Photo created by Canva Inspired by Paul Raine's Tech Tips blog posts, I've decided to list the tech tools which are going to be introduced at EUROCALL 2017 mainly based on the abstract book, because my UK visa was denied three times for illogical reasons and I cannot attend the conference. Fortunately, I'll take part virtually via Virtually…

Writing doesn´t have to be a tedious process and we can enhance it with some tools.

It might develop some creativity too!

Alfredo Corell's curator insight, March 23, 2014 12:49 PM

Using comic strips is one powerful way to get students excited and motivated about the writing act. Students love to interact with visuals and tools such as the ones listed below will empower them to do just that. Using these comic strip generators , students will get  to engage in conversations using cartoonic characters and build stories and share their works with each other.

Ness Crouch's curator insight, March 28, 2014 7:45 PM

I like these ideas! Teaching comic strip writing can be lots of fun!

Creating Interactive Web-based Exercises in Hot Potatoes (TESL-EJ review)

Creating Interactive Web-based Exercises in Hot Potatoes (TESL-EJ review) | eflclassroom | Scoop.it

"Hot Potatoes is a great freeware program for language teachers to create or upload exercises on their personal websites, class group sites, or on the password-protected Hotpotatoes.net. Creating exercises for learners gives them space to repeatedly practise the target language. Students may also engage in the process of creating the exercises themselves, then sharing their work on a class group site for others to access. Previous studies point to the need for learners to be provided with opportunities for language input, making language salient, and focusing on form (Chapelle, 2001; Ellis, 2005). Having students create exercises may allow them to both learn the concepts and practise their language skills through the creation of the exercise (Erben, Ban, & Castaneda, 2009)."

Word Booster

Word Booster | eflclassroom | Scoop.it
We save valuable time of English teachers when they prepare authentic class material from news articles so that they could spend the time on more important things. Just grab the URL of a news article you want to teach, copy & paste the URL on our site, wait for a moment. Then viola! You have ready-to-print word list, vocabulary quiz, and even the article itself reformatted for notes taking.

Five tools to help evaluate sources in a world of fake news - Daily Genius | eflclassroom | Scoop.it

"Whether you call it “fake news”, “misinformation” or the more innocuous “spin,” and whether you see this as an entirely new problem or the continuation of an already existing problem (think “War of the Worlds,” “Yellow Journalism” and “Dewey Defeats Truman”), one thing is clear: there is a powerful and pressing need to prepare our …"

If a picture is worth 1,000 words, and the average length of an English word is 5 letters, it would take you 35.71 Tweets to tell the same story you could with one shared image on social media. So why wouldn’t you just include an image?

Dictionary, Thesaurus, Reference tool - easy to use - | term.ly | eflclassroom | Scoop.it
term.ly, crafting words. An online dictionary, thesaurus.

"term.ly is a way to explore the English language. It is a semantic reference. A dictionary. A thesaurus. A reference tool. Maybe more. Maybe less.

term.ly provides concise definitions and goes beyond standard thesauri by providing related words that scale the hierarchy of language, allowing you to browse to more and less specific terms, and through relationships like 'member of', 'parts', 'similar to', etc.
