Luxembourg - Five tech groups join forces to develop blockchain | #DigitalLuxembourg #Europe | Luxembourg (Europe) | Scoop.it

Five groups have joined together to speed up the development of blockchain technology so it can be adopted by businesses and the government throughout Luxembourg.

The technology is best known for being behind cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, but it can also be used outside of financial transactions to store information on a single database.

The government is hoping to launch the technology to that effect throughout the Grand Duchy to make its services to citizens more efficient and easier to use, but it has yet to give an exact date.

Private companies such as Calastone - which runs systems allowing fund companies to manage client orders - have also adopted the technology.

Now a mixture of non-profit companies and research organisations have created a joint hub to research and develop the technology.

Infrachain, LëtzBlock, Luxembourg House of Financial Technology, the University of Luxembourg’s Institute of Science and Technology and the Interdisciplinary Centre for Security, Reliability will also be providing education on blockchain to users and develop governance standards.
