What does the bank of the future look like? This is the burning question that was addressed to the 27 students of the Luxembourg Tech School gathered for a Hackathon hosted by the LHoFT Foundation in Kirchberg and supported by Digital Lëtzebuerg and Temenos, the world’s leading banking software vendor, who provided the technical infrastructure.

The LHoFT in partnership with Temenos, and the support of the Ministry of State and Digital Lëtzebuerg initiative, is organizing the LTS Fintech Hackathon in Luxembourg. We asked to the LHoFT Foundation Team details on the initiative.

What is the purpose of your hackathon?

Over the course of the last weekend of June, 30 teenage students from the Luxembourg Tech School (LTS) will develop and present their answers to the question: “What does the bank of the future look like?” The students will be guided by various senior technology and business mentors from the local financial services industry​. The Hackathon will be hosted by the LHoFT​ and the technical infrastructure provided by Temenos.​​

What do you expect from it?

Part of the role of the LHoFT is also to enhance knowledge regarding financial technology and digital trends. With this Hackathon​, ​we are very much looking forward to see how these 30 teenage students from the Luxembourg Tech School (LTS)​, ​future customers and potential employees in financial services​, ​will respond to this critical question: “What does the bank of the future look like?” Their needs and expectations, shaped by the technologies they use, will be different to ours. It is maybe the start of the next revolution.

Gaming, Big Data oder FinTech: Sei es das eigene Computerspiel oder eine Formel für einen Erfolgssong, in den drei Modulen des Wahlfach-Projektes „Luxembourg Tech School“ dreht sich alles um Digitaltechnik. Die Schüler können ihre IT-Interessen ausleben, ihr außerschulisches Wissen aufpolieren und ihren Lebenslauf für Praktikums- oder Unibewerbungen interessanter machen. An dem Pilotprojekt beteiligen sich die Lyzeen Michel-Rodange, Aline Mayrisch und Athénée.

Derzeit stecken die 32 Schüler zwischen 15 und 18 Jahren mitten im zweiten Modul: Mithilfe großer Datensätze wollen sie bestimmten Fragestellungen nachgehen. Über Internetseiten wie die Web-Plattform Kaggle.com suchen sie nach großen öffentlichen Datensätzen, die sie dann mithilfe von Algorithmen genauer untersuchen.

The Luxembourg Tech School (LTS for short) is a new extracurricular school concept to support the development of future Digital Leaders. It is aimed at 15-20 years old students who are passionate about the digital realm and eager to learn and apply technology in a real business context.

A. Les axes de développement prioritaires L’année 2016 a été ponctuée par les échanges entre les plateformes de travail pour planifier, structurer et mettre en œuvre les projets éducatifs, les projets législatifs et les projets de synergies entre les institutions de l’éducation formelle et non-formelle.

Plus de 90 projets et 25 programmes sont d’actualité et visent à concrétiser les axes de développement de la politique éducative. Soucieux d’agir avec tous les partenaires afin d’assurer la qualité de l’éducation dès le plus jeune âge, le ministère de l’Éducation nationale, de l’Enfance et de la Jeunesse œuvre dans l’esprit et le respect de la Convention relative aux droits de l’enfant et poursuit son ambition d’aider chaque jeune à trouver sa voie de réussite et construire son avenir.

As of today, 35 pupils are being coached on how to become tomorrow’s digital leaders. Supported by Digital Lëtzebuerg and the Ministry of Education, Children and Youth/Script, the courses of the new Luxembourg Tech School start on 23 September 2016.
