The Neuroscience of Regret

The Neuroscience of Regret | Science News | Scoop.it

We often associate regret with old age – the tragic image of an elderly person feeling regretful over opportunities forever missed. Now, groundbreaking new brain research shows how this stereotype may be true, at least for a portion of the elderly who are depressed. On the other hand, healthy aging may involve the ability to regulate regret in the brain, and move on emotionally when there is nothing more that can be done. If we can teach depressed, older people to think like their more optimistic peers, we may be able to help them let go of regret.

Losing money, emotions and evolution

Losing money, emotions and evolution | Science News | Scoop.it

Financial loss can lead to irrational behavior. Now, research by Weizmann Institute scientists reveals that the effects of loss go even deeper: Loss can compromise our early perception and interfere with our grasp of the true situation. The findings, which recently appeared in the Journal of Neuroscience, may also have implications for our understanding of the neurological mechanisms underlying post-traumatic stress disorder.

Study suggests girls can 'rewire' brains to ward off depression | Science News | Scoop.it
(Medical Xpress) -- What if you could teach your brain to respond differently to things that make you feel sad, down or stressed out? What if doing that helped ward off depression?
Morgan Rector's comment, February 26, 2013 2:05 PM
This article will help me support my fact that girls are more likely to suffer from depression and it will also help me support my point that it can be helped. The brain plays a vital role in depression and I am glad I can find articles like this to help me prove my points.
